What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is an ancient art first practised by the Egyptians and Chinese.  It is based on the theory that every part of the body is connected by energy pathways which terminate in areas on the feet and hands.  These reflex points correspond to specific parts of the body.  The energy pathways of the body can become congested or blocked due to stress, poor eating habits, lack of exercise and illness.

Reflexology involves controlled pressure applied to the reflex areas using thumbs or fingers, working over the whole of both feet, but giving special attention to any problem areas.  The technique is believed to release tensions and tiny deposits improving circulation, eliminating toxins and allowing a free flow of energy and nutrients to the body’s cells.  Through regular treatment it is thought that balance can be restored, therefore helping to maintain the body’s natural equilibrium.

Reflexology can help with relaxation, improve mood, aid sleep, relieve tension and restore the recipient’s sense of well-being.  Reflexology does not claim to cure, but to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms.  If you would like more information about a specific condition and are unsure whether Reflexology would be helpful, please contact Heidi Spindler at Vital Health and she will be happy to discuss your concerns and offer appropriate advice.
